Aflatoxins are among the most potent fungal toxins to affect crops grown in warm and dry ambient conditions.

Many countries have established regulations to protect consumers from the harmful effects of aflatoxin intake. Such maximum levels are set for many agricultural commodities such as grains, grain by-products, feed and milk products. Separate regulations exist for total aflatoxin (aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2), aflatoxin B1 and aflatoxin M1.  

To ensure that the produced food does not exceed this limit value, regular analyses are necessary.
